Arsenal now have strength in depth after a busy summer transfer window, which saw eight new players arrive via Emirates entry, including Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres. Judging by the impressive start to the season made by Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, Andrea Berta has found his recruitment place.

The team is loaded with talent, but that means some players may be playing for their future. Some members of Arteta’s group are undisputed starters while others are waiting for an opportunity that might not come anytime soon.

Three players in particular could be the subject of speculation heading into the January transfer window. This includes youngsters who want more playing time to develop further and more experienced managers who realize their time with the north London giants is over.

Ethan Nwaneri

There was a huge sigh of relief among Arsenal fans when news broke that Ethan Nwaneri had put pen to paper on a new deal this summer. His future was somewhat uncertain amid suggestions he wanted assurances over first-team opportunities.

Nwaneri, 18, has committed his future to the club by signing a contract that expires in 2030. But there are concerns about his minutes, as he has stuck to a small role off the bench so far this season.

The English prodigy is one of the most exciting talents to come out of the Hale End academy. This is why a loan move could be beneficial in January so that he continues to develop and become the world-class striker many expect him to be.

We’ve seen how loans can help launch the careers of young people like William Saliba. The French defender returned to France with Marseille and won the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award before forming arguably Europe’s greatest defensive partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes.

Ben White

There is no denying that Ben White has enjoyed success since arriving at the club from Brighton in the summer of 2021 for 50m. But injuries have been a real nuisance of late, and the England defender missed much of last season due to knee surgery.

White, 28, now finds himself in second place behind Jurrien Timber, and his chances of returning to Arteta’s XI are slim. He will either have to accept less playing time or consider leaving as the arrivals of Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie will only further compromise his playing time.

The Gunners could reap a significant amount of money by selling the versatile centre-back. His contract doesn’t expire until 2028, but there’s bound to be interest if he’s on display.

Gabriel Jesus

Arteta would be in dreamland if he could bring in Gabriel Jesus and rotate the Brazilian with Viktor Gyokeres. There’s no doubt that the former Manchester City striker is extremely talented, but the best ability is availability, and that’s where he struggles.

Gabriel, 28, is currently sidelined with an ACL injury and is not expected to return until January. Perhaps that’s when the club will decide it’s best to part ways, as his fitness issues are a major issue that continues to plague his career at Emirates.

If Berta can find a viable replacement to alternate with Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, that should see Jesus bid farewell. He will have one year left on his contract next summer, so there is slight pressure to make a decision on his future.
