5 potential objectives for the last minimum veteran point of Knicks

The offseason appears almost wrapped for the Knicks, leaving some objects for the compilation of coaching staff and signature Bridges Mikal to an extension.

They do not yet have a complete list, however, with an open point to sign one of their choices in the second round and another to add a veteran with a minimum agreement. The latter was a reason for speculation, with some intriguing objectives available and the multiple needs that the Knicks could potentially face.

Here are their options for the minimum point of the veteran and who could be the most precious in this season …

Ben Simmons

According to Brett Siegel of Clutchpoints, the Knicks are the favorites for Land Simmons, the former first overall choice, Rookie of the Year and the perennial defensive selection of the First Team All-Nba.

Unfortunately, fans who expect that level of production will be disappointed, since Simmons has not been the same since his back problems and his maintenance season.

In reality, it was not a fraction of its previous effectiveness. In its three seasons since then, Simmons has not eclipsed 51 games played or seven points per game in those games, for a total of twice the turnover compared to free shots.

Simmons can still push the ball from a defensive rebound and lift it in the middle of the field, but has lost all the aggression in attack. He rarely seems to drive and when he does, he is rare attacks the edge with any real intent to score or attract the defense.

Can project and make connective games from there, an attractive perspective below Mike Brown‘S Domantas Sabonis Playbook – But this and a decent defense will only make it a specialist of the minutes of commercials.

Its defense also slipped from a cliff, without the speed of the foot to stay with faster guards and the verticality and imposition around the edge to protect it. There is a reason why his playoff minutes quickly went down to multiple DNPs while the clippers learned of his decline in the hardest way.

Having said that, none of the available options is the swing piece between the Knicks who win a championship and the fall, and Simmons represents the highest advantage and the largest frame of the group, which makes his case practicable.

Malcolm Brogdon

New York has strengthened his guard position with the addition of Jordan Clarksoncompleting their rotation of Jalen Brunson, Miles McBride AND Tyler Kolek. Kolek seemed the part as a guard of emergency points in terms of emergency last season and is in line to play that role as a fourth team guard this year.

If the Knicks have reservations, signing Brogdon would be a nice insurance policy on their backcourt options. Like Simmons, he probably overcome his peak but can provide some reliable game.

Unlike Simmons, it is removed only two years from the sixth man of the year and currently has some more credible NBA skills. Brogdon is a career shooter of 38.8 percent of three and has evolved in more than one distributor in his last seasons.

His number has not been otherwise impressive in recent times, but he spent two years bogged down in unclear roles in the reconstruction of situations. Put it able to help more sporadically for a championship hunter could be the thing he needs to have a strong year.

This minimum contract can be better used in a position of more value or necessity, since the Knicks can always rely on Kolek or their non -guards to facilitate. If they are dead sets on a guard, Brogdon is not their only option.

Russell Westbrook

Westbrook looks like a long blow, since the voices do not bind it to New York and there is no clear path for consistent minutes in this rotation. Having said that, he has shown much more impact than Brogdon or Simmons in recent years, and would be an absolute firecracker than an addition if the Knicks did it.

What Westbrook has lost in athleticism and the efficiency of the score, has learned to compensate with its defensive tenacity and its high engine game. It doesn’t play a game, let alone a game, and it’s always full when it is on the pitch.

These are precious things to make it remove the bench, especially in a limited role in a small deal, it is unlikely that Westbrook takes one with three guards in front of him on the depth graph. Fun to think about, especially in the context of a slower Knicks team, but not much more to consider here.

Thomas Bryant

A position for the Knicks may want to consider the use of this point heavily is the central point. Their current rotation is composed of Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson AND Ariel Hukporti, And if the double big team start, this essentially leaves a five backup to start the year.

They have interesting alternative options in the center how to run as soon as they signed Guerschon Yabusele down for a position or playing Og anunoby There, and can always bring Robinson back to the bench. However, signing a piece of depth in the position like Thomas Bryant gives them greater safety in the event that injuries.

Fans will remember Bryant from his time of three against the Knicks in the finals of the conference. Now he has bounced between five teams in his eight -year -old NBA career, but he can intervene in a pinch with an offensive rebound and a deterrence of the edge.

A report by Kevin Martorano di Sportando said that Bryant could pack his suitcases for Greece, in which case the Knicks could have to move on to another central option. Other names that can target are Bol Bol AND Bismack Biyombo.

Landry Shamet

Another thing that this list could use is some pure filming, since their two offensive hubs are also their best shooters and their role could sometimes be uncertain from the range. Their two over -the -counter pickups in this offseason are reliable, but there is not even anything extraordinary from there.

Shamet enters, which was one of the best over-counter pieces in New York in 2024-25.

If he is interested in returning to the minimum of a veteran without the guaranteed game time, the Knicks would happily give the welcome back to his 38.5 percent career from Deep.

Unlike some of these other options, Shamet has a certain positional flexibility, with the ability to play and protect from one to three. It was clutch in the finals of the Eastern Conference last year, shooting 7-15 from three of the series and playing a little suffocating defense after not playing for the entire post-installation season.

There is also Delon WrightWhich is still a free agent after giving the reliable minutes in commercials in the regular season of last year and playoffs. It would be another useful signature if they are trying to go smaller and more defensive.
