A former arch-rival has just tipped Arsenal to win the Premier League

Former Manchester United legend and Arsenal rival Wayne Rooney has tipped the Gunners will win the Premier League this season in a recent interview.

It’s still way early in the season for anyone to have any real predictions – it’s only November – but Rooney said that if he had to pick a club to win the league this season, he would give Arsenal a slight edge over Manchester City.

Arsenal have only conceded five goals this season, and even though they drew 2-2 against Sunderland at the weekend, their record is still excellent and would be a huge factor in the title race.

Rooney spoke about this and other factors including Manchester City, Liverpool’s form and more.

He said: “I think it will be difficult for Liverpool now. I know Arsenal dropped points at the weekend, but if you look at their overall form and the way Man City are going into a great run, it will be difficult for Liverpool.

“But we’re still early in the season so you never know. I just think Arsenal and Man City are the two favorites now.

“Arsenal will be a bit nervous about Man City coming in, but I think it will be one of the two. I’m probably still rooting for Arsenal. I have Arsenal as a slight favourite.”

It’s very early in the season, but at the same time, he has a point. Arsenal look really good despite dropping points this weekend. They were on the verge of this win against Sunderland, and if it hadn’t been for a last-minute equalizer, they looked on the right track.

Of course, declines happen. Every team will lose points at some point during the season. Manchester City are no different from that, and neither are Arsenal.

Arsenal, however, are still four points ahead of Manchester City, which is very good news for them. Even after the draw, they have plenty of room to breathe, which will help Arsenal in the long run.

The Gunners were obviously on an unlikely path to try to match Chelsea’s incredible defensive record of a few years ago. While it might not happen now, they can still have one of the best defensive seasons ever in the Premier League.

Conceding five goals in 16 games is no easy task, and Mikel Arteta will be hoping there are plenty more where that came from.
