According to reports, Malcolm Brogdon attracts interest from Warriors, Knicks, Timberwolves
Malcolm Brogdon’s landing point for the next season remains pending due to situations outside his control.
Brogdon remains one of the best guards of free agents still on the market: it was the sixth man of the year only two seasons ago. His escort has slipped due to injuries, which have limited him to only 63 games combined in the last two seasons (in Portland and Washington). However, when healthy last season, he scored 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per game on average. This is an opportunity at low risk for teams, a healthy brogdon could provide a quality depth to a team that can be seen as a contender.
The Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and the Minnesota Timberwolves expressed some interest in Brogdon, Jake Fischer reports to the Stein line. However, in all three cases, the teams are waiting for other situations to carry out before signing Brogdon (or any guard). With the warriors, this is the Drama of free agency by Jonathan Kuminga.
“In the case of Brogdon, Golden State’s long stall with the free agent Libero Jonathan Kuminga contributed to the uncomfortable wait. We will not know if the warriors emerge with a more serious interest for Brogdon to the state of their list and their luxury tax becomes clear in the wake of a resolution for the resolution of Kuminga and the secondary signatures that have long been anticipated.
Once the situation of Kuminga has been resolved, warriors will know how much money they have to spend on expected purchases such as Horford, De’anthony Melton, Gary Payton II and Will Richard (a choice of the second round). Brogdon may or may not be one of the signed players.
With the Knicks and Timberwolves, the situation that Brogdon maintains in Limbo is the federal investigation into the gambling linked to Malik Beasley. It is no longer a “objective” in that investigation – which means a principal in the heart of the case – but remains a “subject” linked to investigations and could potentially be accused of a crime. Both New York and Minnesota were in contact with Beasley, who was second in the sixth man of the year to vote for the Pistons last season. With even a month before the start of the training field, the Knicks and the Timberwolves (and the pistons and other teams with interest for Beasley) can wait to see how things are going, then doing their move later. Brogdon could be a fallback for those teams.
This leaves a quality guard waiting for his opportunity. It will end up signing for the minimum veteran wherever he lands, a step down compared to the two -year agreement of 45 million dollars (from the pacer) that he has just completed.
