The Gunners have had a mixed run in recent games across competitions – suffering a 0-2 defeat at the hands of City in the League Cup final on 22 March that was followed by a quarter-final exit in the FA Cup following a 1-2 loss against Southampton.
Arsenal, however, did win the opening leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Sporting CP, collecting a 1-0 win at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on Wednesday. And in their first Premier League outing in nearly a month, they will be hoping to end up on the right side of the result to boost their nine-point lead over Man City, who currently have a game in hand.
Arsenal eye season-double against Bournemouth
Bournemouth, meanwhile, find themselves at the 13th spot on the 20-team Premier League table with 42 points after 31 games, and will be hoping to break into the top-10 with a victory over the current leaders, depending on other results of course. The Cherries are in the middle of a five-game winless run, collecting a draw in each of these fixtures with their last win coming in the form of a 2-1 victory over Everton on 11 February.
Arsenal had registered a narrow 3-2 victory over Bournemouth thanks to Declan Rice’s second-half brace when the two sides had locked horns at the Vitality Stadium, the latter’s home ground, on 3 January. And come Saturday, Mikel Arteta’s men will be hoping to complete a season double as they aim to further strengthen their position in their quest for a first Premier League title since 2004.
