Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze scores against former club as Gunners extend lead at top of Premier League

Arsenal came into this match with four wins from their previous four matches in which they had not conceded a goal.

But on Sunday, the Gunners didn’t start like a team at the top of the league and in such good form.

It took around 30 minutes for them to get a shot on target through Leandro Trossard and there were some shaky moments at the back as loose passes and Mateta caused problems during the first half.

Arsenal have been known for their threat from set pieces for some time and it was another excellent free kick from Rice that led to the opener and ultimately the match winner.

The goal means the Gunners have now scored 11 goals from set pieces in the Premier League this season, two more than any other team.

Mikel Arteta has repeatedly explained why set pieces and defending are important. In games like this against teams that pose a threat, being able to win without playing at their best means Arsenal can continue to pick up important points as they look to win the Premier League title.
