Arsenal 2-1 Wolves: Arsenal snatch win in thrilling finale with Wolves

Arsenal will feel they have got away with it against a Wolves side without a win in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners struggled to break down teams defending in a low block and that was the case once again as they failed to muster a shot on target in the first half.

Their performance lacked intensity and with Wolves looking to slow the game down at every opportunity, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to create chances.

It took Saka’s excellent corner to force Johnstone into an error and open the scoring, and another error from Mosquera for Arsenal to take all three points.

The home crowd were growing increasingly nervous – desperate to win the title after three successive second places – and that tension spilled onto the pitch as the Gunners fell back as they tried to protect their lead.

They almost paid, and with a late goal conceded against Aston Villa last week in the Premier League, fans and Arteta would have feared the same fate.

Arsenal have been excellent for much of the season but have seen a slight wobble in recent weeks with draws against Chelsea and Sunderland and defeat to Villa in their last six league matches.

Arteta is a demanding character and he and his team must find a way to cope with the pressure of a title challenge – the scrutiny and intensity will only increase as the season progresses.

More to follow.
