Villarreal is extremely happy to be back in the Champions League for the first time since 2022, with the Spanish memories again punched well above their weight when they ended up in fifth place in La Liga last season to secure a return to Europe’s Elite Club competition. Marcelino has created a balanced team because many young people are mixed with veterans such as Ayoze Perez (their top goal score last season), Gerard Moreno and former Arsenal wings Nicolas Pepe.

The Swedish striker has a lot of pressure on him to deliver goals directly but he works up to the challenge and is extremely safe. Fellow New Signing Madueke has only returned to exercise but can contain, while Arteta will want to see a step up in intensity after beating AC Milan and Newcastle and losing to Spurs in Friendship in Asia over the past ten days. Gabriel, Riccardo Calafoiri and Jurrien Timber did not present against Spurs last time, while Leandro Trossard adjusted a muscle and back-up goalkeeper Kepa did not risk as a precautionary measure.
