Arsenal confirm boardroom shake-up as Tim Lewis steps down

Arsenal confirmed a major reshuffle at the level of the board of directors with Tim Lewis who recovers as executive vice-president after five years at the club.

Lewis, 62, was a long -standing confidant of the owner Stan Kroenke and joined the Arsenal board of directors in 2020 before being promoted in March 2023.

His departure marks the end of a period during which he became one of the most influential figures of the Emirates, filling the gap between the Kroenke family and the football side of the operation.

During his mandate, Lewis played a crucial role in the direction of the club thanks to the financial challenges of the Pandemic Covid-19, of refinancing of debt and strengthening the position of Arsenal at the level of the Premier League on regulatory issues.

He was also a key defender of Mikel Arteta and the technical director Edu, helping to secure the extension of the Spanish contract in 2022 and support the club’s recruitment strategy.

The time of his departure is a surprise, especially after a summer during which he was at the heart of the Arsenal transfer activities, including the signing of 60 million pounds sterling by Ebechi Eze.

However, this also reflects the growing influence of Josh Kroenke, who continues to play a more important role of leadership alongside his father Stan.

As part of the reshuffle, Arsenal announced that Richard Garlick had been promoted to managing director to the director general with immediate effect.

Garlick, who joined the Premier League club in 2021, led the management team in the past year and will now supervise operations at the highest level.

There will also be significant changes to the board of directors. The representatives of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, Kelly Blaha and Otto Maly, will join as non -executive directors, as well as the longtime advisor of Kse, Dave Steiner.

In addition, the producer of television and supporter of Arsenal, Ben Winston, was appointed to the board of directors, combining his media expertise with his longtime link with the club.

Josh Kroenke described the appointments as part of the club’s desire for “always going ahead” and congratulated Garlick for his impact since his arrival in northern London. He also paid tribute to Lewis, thanking him for his “dedication and commitment” during a period of “transformational change”.

The changes to the board of directors, which remain subject to the test of the owners and directors of the Premier League, report a new chapter in the direction outside the Arsenal.
