Arsenal could bank millions from relegated club after quietly agreeing clause | Football | Sport

Aaron Ramsdale could be in for a surprising move this summer, with Galatasaray reportedly showing interest, and Arsenal are poised to benefit from any sale. The Super Lig champions, who boast several ex-Premier League players in their ranks, are now keen on bringing the former Gunners goalkeeper to Istanbul. The Turkish heavyweights already have familiar faces such as Davinson Sanchez, Alvaro Morata, Mario Lemina and Lucas Torreira in their squad from last season, and have recently added Leroy Sane.
Ilkay Gundogan is also on Galatasaray’s radar, although he would prefer to stay at Manchester City. Ramsdale could be their next target, with the Saints’ keeper reported to have a £20million relegation release clause in his contract. This could lead to his departure from St Mary’s just a year after joining from Arsenal which was a move that, according to football.london, included a sell-on clause for the Gunners.
The former Bournemouth goalkeeper, who has experienced Premier League relegation three times, has also attracted interest from West Ham. The Hammers are in the market for a new goalkeeper following Lukasz Fabianski’s exit, and Ramsdale is being considered alongside Chelsea pair Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.
Southampton may be ready to cut ties with Ramsdale despite the release clause potentially leading to a loss on the £25m deal struck last summer, as parting ways with the England goalkeeper could alleviate their financial burden given he reportedly earns £100,000-a-week.
A loan hasn’t been dismissed yet, since Southampton do not have an urgent need to bring in funds through big sales this transfer window. However, Ramsdale is eager to play in the Premier League.
At 27, Ramsdale is looking for a fresh challenge to bolster his chances of being included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for next year’s World Cup. A move to a club like Galatasaray might provide the vital experience Tuchel desires in his goalkeepers.
During the last international break, Tuchel explained: “All our goalkeepers are not involved in European football, they’re not used to European football which would be ideal.
“It’s not a problem, Jordan [Pickford] behaves and trains at the highest level and we’re very, very happy with him. He’s doing everything at the moment to keep his place because he feels that Dean [Henderson] stepped up and found another level, another gear.
“Dean got a big title with his club and was a key figure in the campaign so that helped him a lot for his confidence. He also found a title and a decisive role at Crystal Palace. He got an important and vital title for his club and he was a big figure in this campaign. This helped his confidence a lot.
“Then we have the very young James Trafford who played a fantastic, record-breaking campaign with Burnley and got clean sheets. Hopefully he can prove himself next season in the Premier League and then the race is on.”
