Arsenal ‘could sell Kai Havertz’ as Gunners move closer to £70m Viktor Gyokeres transfer | Football | Sport

Arsenal star Kai Havertz is reportedly one of the established first-team players the Gunners may consider selling over the next 12 months. Another big-spending summer, which could include the £70million arrival of striker Viktor Gyokeres, would leave the Premier League side at risk of a potential Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach without a major sale.

Premier League rules permit clubs to lose only £105m over a given three-year period. Arsenal are widely understood to be safe from a breach as things stand. One of the division’s largest revenues was topped up last summer by departures for Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale for a combined fee of a little under £90m. However, £120m could yet be spent over the coming months if Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi complete moves to the Emirates Stadium.

That will reportedly prompt Arsenal to consider a sale of an important member of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad. According to the BBC, forward Havertz is among the players at threat of a departure.

Clubs in Germany are reportedly monitoring Havertz’s situation. Arsenal are said to be under no immediate pressure to sell but could consider an exit over the next 12 months. That would include the January transfer windows and the first part of next summer’s market.

The report adds that Gabriel Martinelli has interest that Arsenal may take seriously. Wide-ranging reports suggest that the Brazilian is wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the same report claims that Arsenal are making significant progress with a £70m move for Sporting star Gyokeres. New sporting director Andrea Berta is said to have been a key force behind the deal, and believes the 27-year-old striker can make an immediate impact.

Gyokeres has been a scoring sensation in Portugal, bagging 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting. However, he never made a Premier League appearance at former club Brighton and played his best football in England below the top-flight, shining for Championship outfit Coventry.

Reportedly keen on a move to Arsenal over Manchester United, Gyokeres could be one of three quickfire signings by the Gunners. A £51m switch for Real Sociedad midfielder Zubimendi is widely expected to be completed.

Arsenal have already signed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalga from Chelsea. The Spaniard will compete with David Raya for the No. 1 shirt.
