Arsenal fans actually think one player could score ‘20 goals’ if Mikel Arteta changed his position

Arsenal fans had a strong message for Mikel Arteta after the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Brighton.

Once again, Arsenal responded to a Manchester City victory by taking three points in the Premier League to stay top of the table.

The win against Brighton was far from conventional, as evidenced by Declan Rice playing at right-back, but Arsenal got the job done.

Three points were the priority, but it’s so clear that Arteta needs to get on with his attack as scoring goals seems like a chore at the moment, something the fans might have a solution for.

Arsenal fans urge Mikel Arteta to use Gabriel Martinelli as striker

Over the last four games in all competitions, Arsenal have generated an impressive 9.23xG, only to score one goal without a penalty.

One problem is Viktor Gyokeres’ weakness when leading the line, the other being the Swede’s teammates, who seem equally incapable of scoring at present.

There is, however, one solution that Arsenal fans are noticing: Gabriel Martinelli.

On social media after the Gunners’ win over Brighton, fans flocked to X to plead for Arteta to play Martinelli as a centre-forward.

“Forget the fact that he missed, but can we stop pretending he’s not a number 9. Free Vardy’s man,” said one fan.

While this supporter compared Martinelli to Jamie Vardy, another compared him to Luis Suarez.

“The best thing Emery did was play him as a number 9 because he is literally the regeneration of Suarez.”

Unai Emery has given Martinelli opportunities as a striker, but fans don’t understand why Arteta isn’t doing it.

Change your mind, Gabriel Martinelli can only save his career at Arsenal by becoming a striker.

“I promise you Nelli would score 20 goals playing with our 9,” said one X user, while another asked: “How did Arteta not try it?”

Fingers have been pointed at the Arsenal manager, who has been criticized for his handling of Martinelli and other attackers.

“At some point you have to question Mikel’s ability to adapt an attack because everyone can see that his movement is what we need.”

Others couldn’t ignore Martinelli’s potential to play as a striker.

“This boy is a 9 all day and twice on Sunday,” one said.

Another admitted he was able to see through the Brazilian’s flaws.

“I accepted him last season. He misses him a lot, but he has the brains to be a quality number 9.”

Arteta has nothing to lose at the moment with Arsenal attackers

The fans have made their thoughts clear, but what will Arteta do next?

Arteta reacted to Martinelli’s failure against Brighton, which could have put the boss’s thoughts in contrast with those of the supporters, but at the moment there is nothing to lose.

In fact, I think Arsenal need to sign a goalscorer in January, do you agree?

Arsenal cannot afford to continue to underperform expected targets so badly.

With no player stepping up to score goals consistently, Arteta has to take a risk, with fans believing the risk should give Martinelli the chance to impress as a striker.

With Aston Villa next, Arteta could release Martinelli into a role first handed to him at Arsenal by Emery, a move that could stun the Villa boss.
