Arsenal injury update: Viktor Gyokeres out for Champions League clash against Slavia Prague

Arsenal will be without Viktor Gyokeres for Tuesday’s 2025-26 UEFA Champions League match against Slavia Prague after the Swedish striker suffered an injury at the weekend, manager Mikel Arteta said on Monday.

Gyokeres scored the opener in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday, his fourth Premier League goal of the season, but did not score in the second half and Arteta confirmed he would not feature in the match in Prague.

“He’s definitely not available,” Arteta told reporters.

“He did not train today and we need to do more tests and scans in the coming days to understand the extent of the injury, but for this match he is not available,” he added.

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal from Sporting in July for 55 million euros ($64.14 million), has started 13 games this season for the club in the domestic league and Champions League, and his absence worries the manager.

“Worry because he didn’t have a lot of muscle problems, and he had to leave the field, and he felt something,” Arteta said.

“It’s obviously never a good sign, especially for a very, very explosive player. So we’re digging a little deeper to understand where we are injury-wise, and we’ll announce as soon as we know more,” he added.

Gyokeres scored 39 league goals for Sporting last season, including six in the Champions League, and the Swede’s injury comes just when he looked to be hitting his stride with Arsenal.

Saturday’s goal was his first in the league since September 13, and he also scored twice in the last Champions League match, a 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid.

“Obviously he was very disappointed after the match with how he felt, but that’s part of football,” Arteta said.

“If you expect a linear line, everything will go up, it won’t happen, and if he has something, he will have to deal with it; we will help him to do it. He was in a very good moment, in very good form, very important for the team. But for tomorrow we don’t have him, so that’s it,” Arteta said.

Arsenal have won all three Champions League matches this season without conceding a goal, while Slavia are still winless in the league stage of the competition and have two points.
