Arsenal may abandon Eberechi Eze transfer after striking new agreement | Football | Sport
Arsenal may consider pulling out of negotiations for Eberechi Eze, having been frustrated by Crystal Palace, coupled with a recent agreement. The Eagles, despite being relegated to the UEFA Conference League, are unwilling to part ways with their creator-in-chief for anything less than his £67.5million release clause.
Tottenham had also been interested in the England international but baulked at the terms of a deal. Palace insisted that the majority of Eze’s release clause would have to be paid up front. The Gunners had been searching for alternative modes of payment as they considered their options in the window.
The teenager is now widely expected to sign a new five-year contract in north London, where he will be recognised as one of European football’s most promising young talents. Talks had accelerated last week and the final details are thought to be a formality.
The Athletic claim that this breakthrough only reduces the need to bring in a player in Eze’s position.
The same sentiment rings true for Arsenal’s pursuit of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. He had been shortlisted as a potential signing this summer, but informal talks regarding the Dutchman have slowed since Nwaneri’s contract renewal discussions reached the final stages.
Meanwhile, according to Sky Sports Germany, Chelsea are holding negotiations with Simons’ camp on Monday. If personal terms can be reached with the party, which includes his brother Faustino, the Blues will speak to RB Leipzig regarding a potential fee.
But a cooling of Eze and Simons for Arsenal, owing to Nwaneri’s new deal, may indicate that a more traditional left-winger could be in the offing as opposed to a player such as those aforementioned that can play out wide and central.
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has been rumoured this summer alongside Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon and Ademola Lookman, though the latter is expected to complete a switch from Atalanta to Inter Milan instead.
