Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta receives warning as Myles Lewis-Skelly concern addressed
Arsenal compete in the FA Cup before returning to the Premier League midweek
Arsenal turn their attention to the FA Cup on Sunday as their busy schedule shows no signs of letting up. The Gunners are still involved in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League, as well as the bread and butter of the Premier League.
But it’s the world’s oldest cup competition that has their attention this weekend as they welcome Wigan Athletic to the Emirates in a bid to maintain their charge on all four fronts. The Gunners saw off Portsmouth in the last round with the help of an own goal and a hat-trick from Gabriel Martinelli at Fratton Park.
Now League One Latics waited as the north Londoners attempted to reach the final for the first time since 2020, when they went all the way against Chelsea.
It’s another hectic week for Mikel Arteta’s side after that, as they face Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday night before a visit to Tottenham next weekend.
Here, Mirror football has all the latest news from the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta sent a warning
Pep Guardiola has indirectly warned Arteta that he should not ‘relax’ during the Premier League title race. However, the City boss admits he would rather be in the north London side’s shoes at the moment.

Guardiola said: “I would rather be in Arsenal’s position than in ours.
“If I was in the position four points ahead of second, with 12 games to go, I wouldn’t be relaxed. Imagine being four points behind, I’m less relaxed. I would still rather be in the position Arsenal are in than us.”
City have reduced Arsenal’s lead in recent weeks, with the gap falling to just four points following Arsenal’s draw with Brentford and City’s win over Fulham in midweek. Guardiola’s side next host Newcastle in the Premier League, at which point the Gunners could have opened up a seven-point lead against Wolves on Wednesday.

Myles Lewis-Skelly worried
Nigel Winterburn hopes Myles Lewis-Skelly is not left behind in the Arsenal squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The former Arsenal defender waxed lyrical to Gambling.com about the 19-year-old, but admits he has concerns.
Winterburn said: “Myles is a fabulous young footballer. He had a great season last year and did a tremendous job for the team. He is super confident and it must be remembered, he is still very young.
“Mikel obviously wanted to add depth to that position with Kiwior leaving and with Hincapie and Calafiori, who has had a few injuries, Myles has gone down a bit, but with so many games coming up, Myles can do a job in the center of midfield, which was his preferred position as a youngster.”
Regarding Lewis-Skelly’s ambitions for the England team, Winterburn added: “So with such a busy schedule, I think Myles will get a lot more playing time while Mikel rotates as Arsenal push on all fronts. As for England, I hope this doesn’t distract from their chances of making the World Cup.”
