Arsenal now stepping up interest in Caleb Yirenkyi after scouting mission
Arsenal have now made contact over a deal for a ‘crazy’ midfielder, who has been in top form.
Gunners intensify search for new midfielder
The Gunners are keen to sign a new central midfielder at the end of the campaign, and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is among the most ambitious targets, with Mikel Arteta known to be an admirer of the Italy international.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Magpies will be willing to strengthen a Premier League rival by cashing in on Tonali, and there could be competition for his signature, as Manchester United and Manchester City also are.
If Arteta’s side win the Premier League title, the Emirates Stadium will undoubtedly be an attractive destination this summer, and they remain in a good position to do so, sitting six points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side after the weekend’s action.
However, with the race for Tonali heating up, the north Londoners have now set their sights on an unknown quantity ahead of the summer, according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states that they are now stepping up their interest in FC Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.
In fact, Arsenal have made contact about a deal for the maestro, but it appears they may have to fend off rival interest, with the likes of Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United also named as potential suitors.
The Superliga side are looking to receive at least £22million for Yirenkyi, who has been in fine form of late, and the Gunners were on hand to see him deliver a man-of-the-match performance in a 2-1 win over Sonderjyske at the weekend.
“Insane” Yirenkyi could be an exciting long-term signing
The eight-time Ghana international produced a superb all-round performance against Sonderjyske, contributing a goal and an assist, while also making two clearances, an interception and a tackle to help his side to a narrow victory.
Arsenal race to sign £65m Premier League star who is a ‘chaos creator’
The Gunners have set their sights on a new striker.
It’s been a solid campaign overall for the starlet, who has two goals and five assists to his name in 18 Superliga appearances, indicating he could soon be ready to test himself in a better league.
With the central midfielder yet to prove himself outside of Denmark, he might be far from a regular starter for a club of Arsenal’s size, but he is certainly showing encouraging signs.
That said, Arsenal are well resourced in central midfield, with Declan Rice amassing four goals and five assists in the Premier League this season, while Martin Zubimendi has been described as “world class” by Spanish football writer Alexandra Jonson.
As such, while Yirenkyi could be a sensible long-term addition to Arteta’s squad, the squad’s depth could hamper his development, as has arguably been the case with compatriot Myles Lewis-Skelly.
