Arsenal ‘Preparing Bid’ to Sign Real Madrid Star Rodrygo in January
Arsenal are preparing a surprise bid to sign Real Madrid striker Rodrygo in the January transfer window, according to claims by CaughtOffside.
The north London side are reportedly looking to capitalize on the Brazilian striker’s uncertain situation in the Spanish capital, with Rodrygo considering a move away from Real despite limited playing time under Xabi Alonso.
Several Premier League clubs are aware of the striker’s potential availability in the new year, with Arsenal and Liverpool closely monitoring developments.
Rodrygo has only played 342 minutes of La Liga football for Real this season, as well as 104 minutes in the Champions League.
Arsenal consider blockbuster bid for Rodrygo
According to CaughtOffside, Real Madrid are ready to listen to serious offers for Rodrygo amid his sporadic playing time this campaign.
The Spanish club have reportedly told interested parties that they would consider letting Rodrygo leave, provided the offer is high enough.
Real are reportedly seeking around €90m for the Brazilian ‘superstar’, who is said to earn around £350,000 per week on a contract running until June 2028.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for Rodrygo, with the Gunners looking to add depth to Mikel Arteta’s attacking options.
A move for Rodrygo would represent another high-profile signing for Arsenal in recent months, following the arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners, who recorded a 2-0 victory over Brentford on Wednesday, are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 14 games.
Rodrygo must revive his career
Since the arrival of Kylian Mbappé at Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, Rodrygo has often played in the shadow of the French superstar.
The Brazilian striker is yet to score in 16 appearances for Los Blancos this season, with his last La Liga goal coming in January.
A move away from the Santiago Bernabeu could give Rodrygo the fresh start he needs to revive his career, although it remains to be seen whether Arsenal’s reported interest will materialize into a formal offer in January.
Odegaard latest to swap Real for Arsenal
Real stars have moved to Arsenal four times this century, with Martin Odegaard being the most recent, joining the Gunners in the summer of 2021.
There were also transfers for Dani Ceballos (loan), Mesut Ozil and Julio Baptista (loan), while Davor Suker left Real for north London in the summer of 1999.
