Ellis was promoted to technical director last summer to support Andrea Berta in recruitment following the departure of Jason Ayto, who was interim sporting director before the Italian’s arrival. Ellis was head of recruitment before his appointment as technical director. The 46-year-old started at Arsenal as a first-team scout after joining Fulham in the summer of 2021. However, he was given a bigger role under former sporting director Edu and his services were retained following the Brazilian’s departure.

Ellis was already attracting interest from other clubs before becoming technical director and is likely to move into a more senior role elsewhere.
