Arsenal’s time is running out to make improvements to their squad before the end of the January transfer window, hoping not to let another Premier League title slip away.

Another Champions League victory puts Arsenal in a princely position as the transfer window draws to a close. The Gunners are fighting on four fronts as they hope to finally end their Premier League title drought, giving all the more reason to recruit.

Mikel Arteta’s men devastated Inter Milan 3-1 at San Siro on Tuesday night to move six points clear at the top of the table with just one game remaining. The north Londoners are now assured of a place in the last 16 of the competition, having won all seven of their matches so far.

They are also seven points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. However, the club has become accustomed to late slumps destroying their claims to the crown in seasons past.

This history suggests that Arsenal would be wise to invest now before regretting any missed opportunities in the future. And Mirror football has dissected the latest rumors around the Emirates as Arteta looks to build on a superb first half of the campaign.

Arteta regrets Nwaneri

So much has happened at the club this season that it is difficult to express many regrets. However, Arteta has at least one regret after admitting he would have liked to give Ethan Nwaneri more minutes as the winger prepares to join Marseille on loan.

All signs suggest the 18-year-old will spend the rest of the season in the south of France after Arsenal reportedly gave the deal the green light. Nwaneri had a breakthrough season last season, but has only started four times in 12 appearances in all competitions this campaign.

His most recent league appearance was in November, and a temporary move could be just what the player needs. And while the deal may make sense for all parties, Arteta expressed some sense of remorse at not being able to make more use of the academy product.

“I don’t know,” Arteta said when asked for the latest news on Nwaneri’s proposed loan deal. “We’ll have a discussion this week. Obviously he’s not getting the minutes that he probably also deserves and needs at his age.

“We’re going to sort it out and see what’s best. Let’s see. We need to sit down and talk about how we want to move things forward.”

Canister asking price revealed

Breno Bidon is a potential new arrival at the Emirates that has been talked about for some time now. But while speculation about Arsenal’s interest in the player is nothing new, news of his supposed price tag has now been revealed.

And it’s not as bad as first thought after ESPN Brasil reported the player could move this month if an away side brings in £21million. Bidon, who has been nicknamed ‘the Brazilian Pedri’ in some circles, has been a standout player for Corinthians in recent years and already has 103 senior appearances despite being just 20 years old.

The versatile midfielder is capable of playing a multitude of roles, a trait common to players Arteta has signed recently. He would also have a cohort of fellow Brazilians to keep him company in London in the trio of Gabriels: Magalhaes, Jesus and Martinelli.

Other European heavyweights are said to be keeping tabs on the youngster, who is in contention for his first senior cap in Brazil. Corinthians also appear to have their preferred replacement, with Wolfsburg’s Vinicius Souza apparently at the top of their wishlist in the event of Bidon’s departure.

Speaking about the prospect of Bidon leaving in January, Corinthians coach Dorival Junior recently said: “He’s a very important player. And if I’m honest with you, I wouldn’t like to lose any player. We need to find a balance to be able to have a strong team throughout the year. That’s our biggest challenge.”
