Teenage talents

Our Arsenal reporter Jordan Davies is in Singapore and has spoken to Mikel Arteta after the friendly win over AC Milan…

Mikel Arteta was left amazed by Arsenal’s teenage talents as they kicked off their pre-season tour of Asia with a victory.

Bukayo Saka netted the only goal in a drab affair at the Singapore National Stadium – popping up at the back post in the 53rd minute to down the below-par Italians.

The second half was also lit up by 15-year-old academy graduates Max Dowman and Marli Salmon making their senior debuts – with first club appearances as well for new signings Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

In a friendly penalty shoot-out at full-time, centre back Salmon missed his spot-kick, but Dowman converted his and Kepa made three saves in a 6-5 loss.

Arsenal ended the match with four academy grads on the pitch, with seven appearing in total including Saka, 23, Reiss Nelson, 25, Ethan Nwaneri, 18, Myles Lewis-Skelly 18, and Josh Nicols, 18.
