Slot hopes Frimpong’s extra pace at right-back can make up for the absence of Liverpool’s top scorer Ekitike, who misses tonight through injury.

“Missing players is never pleasant, and it makes things more difficult if the other option is also not available. Indeed, pace is an important weapon against any opponent, but certainly against a team that usually dominates possession,” the Liverpool manager told Sky Sports when asked about Ekitike’s loss.

“We have to adjust according to the players we have, the qualities of Arsenal and come up with, in my opinion, the best possible game plan.”

The Dutchman added: “We got a bit of a rhythm going with Frimpong, I said he’s been out for three or four months, not constantly but mostly.

“Then he had to play a few games in a row, so I decided to use him as a substitute against Fulham so he would be available tonight.”

“Of course, after a while these players are more than capable of playing every game, but if they’ve been out for a few months it’s a risk so you have to adapt.”
