Arsenal vs Man United: Visitors stun Arsenal with Matheus Cunha stunner – as it happened
Manchester United stunned Arsenal with a wonder goal from Matheus Cunha to leave north London with a 3-2 victory.
Cunha scored a thunderbolt from outside the box after 87 minutes, just three minutes after Arsenal had equalized thanks to a scrappy Mikel Merino goal from a corner.
Arsenal took a deserved lead after 29 minutes when Lisandro MartÃnez put the ball into his own net under pressure from Jurriën Timber, but in scoring that goal Mikel Arteta’s side then appeared to start playing within themselves.
Sure enough, eight minutes later, Bryan Mbeumo took advantage of a horrible loose pass from MartÃn Zubimendi and rounded Senne Lammens to level the scores.
The second half saw United take the lead after five minutes thanks to a screamer from Patrick Dorgu, before Merino’s equalizer looked to bring Arsenal a point, until Cunha himself hit a long-range cracker to take all three points.
Here’s how it happened.
Arsenal dominated the first half hour and had 65% possession, five shots and four corners, but had yet to really take this into account, until Martin Odegaard saw his shot attempt directly into the path of Timber and Martinez and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
The home side failed to hold on to that early advantage, however, and United began to gain confidence, with two well-taken goals either side of half-time from Mbeumo and Dorgu.
Arsenal then had to make changes and Arteta made four at once, with Ben White, Viktor Gyökeres, Mikel Merino and Eberechi Eze all entering the fray.
It was Merino who made the biggest impact, scoring what appeared to be a decisive equalizer that crossed the finish line thanks to goal-line technology.
Then Cunha hit the headlines, with a goal that will stay in his and everyone’s memory for a long time.
