Arsenal’s first January transfer decided with £17m release clause | Football | Sport

Arsenal have the most complete squad in the Premier League, potentially in all of world football, but that may not stop Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta from strengthening further. The Gunners are only expected to enter the now-open January market for a bumper opportunity.

But repeated injuries throughout the first half of the season could prompt Arsenal to reconsider their transfer approach. The pressure has mounted on the championship leaders, with many insisting they have no excuse for not finishing as champions. Here, Sport Express looked at the first thing the Gunners should do to ensure they are in place to end the campaign with some important silverware…

Jack McEachen – Kenan Yildiz

The left side of Arsenal’s attack is its weakest link, despite impressive performances from Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli this season.

Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz would provide a versatile option who would further strengthen Mikel Arteta’s front line. He is a target of Liverpool and Chelsea, but at this stage Arsenal would be a more attractive proposition.

And he continues to stagnate on a new contract in Turin…

The Turkish striker could be the missing piece of the puzzle to get Arsenal over the line in the Premier League and Champions League.

Charlie Malam – Rodrigo Mendoza

With all of Arsenal’s injured defenders back, the depth at the back is exceptional. But perhaps in central midfield the Gunners might need another body – but more importantly a player who can be part of the long-term plans.

Elche’s Rodrigo Mendoza advances.

The 20-year-old Spain youth international has already been scouted by Arsenal and has a £17 million release clause. A technical and creative midfielder, Mendoza specializes in carrying the ball and confronting opponents. He is still raw and has a lot of development to do, especially out of possession, but could be a potential gem that they could fit into their next No.10.

Tom Parsons – Jérémie Jacquet

Arsenal have been forced to face a defensive crisis this season, with the majority of their backline having been sidelined at various points throughout the campaign.

And the Gunners could strengthen their defense by bringing in Rennes central defender Jeremy Jacquet, who is tipped to have a bright future at the top of the game.

Mikel Arteta’s side have reportedly expressed an interest in the 20-year-old this summer. And his physical prowess could set him up for huge success in the Premier League.

Archie Griggs – Givairo Read

The league leaders could bring in another right-back to provide quality cover for Jurrien Timber. They already have Ben White, but he can’t be counted on to stay fit, with injuries often leaving Timber as the only option.

Arsenal could benefit from a move for Read, who is excelling at Feyenoord and would be able to challenge for a starting place in the years to come. He is only 19 years old and seems destined for the top.
