They are one of the best teams in the world and they do not fit into the Conference League a bit – says Legia Warszawa coach Goncalo Feio before Thursday’s match against Chelsea in the Conference League quarter-finals

It’s safe to say the countdown is over. The day that Legia Warsaw fans have been waiting for is coming. The Conference League quarter-final against Chelsea.

Goncalo Feio decided not to keep anyone in suspense and at the very beginning of the press conference he presented the medical report on Bartosz Kapustka and Marc Guala.

– They didn’t train with us and they won’t play tomorrow. We’ll try to get them back on their feet for the next match – coach Feio said at a press conference.

– The Conference League favourite and the only team to have won all of their matches in the competition is coming to us. We respect Chelsea, we know who we’re playing against, and a large part of our team has experienced the win against Aston Villa, among other things. The scale of the challenge is big, but we’ll do everything to win once again – said the Legia coach.

– There is no point in going out on the pitch if you don’t believe you can do it. That’s the first step to failure – added Feio.

And since the injured Gual and Ilya Shkurin, who is not registered for the competition, will be absent, we will have to think with the striker and look for solutions.

Perhaps it will be 35-year-old Tomas Pekhart, who plays little and hasn’t scored a goal since late August. Or maybe Feio will surprise and go for someone who is not nominally a “nine”.

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has no such problems. He can rotate as he pleases, which he did in previous Conference League matches.

“Whoever Enzo Maresca chooses, it will be an incredible line-up. We expected Chelsea to rotate their line-up in previous matches, but we don’t expect them to do the same against us,” Feio said.

– This match is different from most matches, because in Legia we usually start with a bad result. Here 0:0 is treated as a defeat. It’s bad from the start. Tomorrow will be different. Chelsea is the clear favourite, not only for this match, but also for the entire competition. They are one of the best teams in the world and they don’t really fit into the Conference League – summed up the Legia coach.

The Legia Warsaw – Chelsea match starts on Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
