Brentford on Ivan Toney: ‘Ask Arsenal – there are no bids’
Thomas Frank has hoped that Ivan Toney, who has big clubs after him, will stay at Brentford.
On May 17, the English Football Association (FA) announced that Ivan Toney, 27, was suspended for eight months.
He was also fined £50,000. The reason was that he had violated the rules around betting.
Toney, who has one cap, was convicted of 232 offences between February 2017 and January 2021.
In September, Toney was allowed to start training with Brentford again, but will have to wait until January 16, 2024 before he can play a game again.
Despite the suspension, Toney has been linked with clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United ahead of the January window.
However, Brentford manager Thomas Frank hopes the star will turn down a move next month and responds to reports that Arsenal could make a bid.
“I don’t know. You have to ask Arsenal. As far as I know, Ivan is a Brentford player. No bids. I want to keep him and he’s looking forward to playing for us,” the Dane told The Guardian.
Brentford are on a four-game losing streak and Frank is eagerly awaiting Toney’s return.
“To get Ivan back will be like signing an incredibly good striker, who has proven himself in the Premier League,” he said.
I would love to have my best players with me at all times.
“Of course we’re looking forward to it. Ivan trains very well, on and off the pitch, and is looking forward to finally contributing to the team. Am I desperate to keep him? Desperate is a big word. I would really like to keep him. I’m the head coach. I would love to have my best players with me at all times.
Toney’s current contract with Brentford expires in the summer of 2025.
