Bukayo Saka contract: Arsenal winger signs new four-year deal to keep him at club until 2030 | Football News
Bukayo Saka has backed Arsenal to “get over the line” and win trophies again after signing a new four-year contract that makes him the Gunners’ highest-paid player.
Saka’s previous contract was due to expire in June 2027, but he has now committed his future to the Gunners until 2030.
The England international has become a key player for his boyhood club under Mikel Arteta, playing more minutes than any other Arsenal player since the manager’s appointment in 2019.
In total, he has made 296 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 77 goals, including eight in 34 games in all competitions this season.
He scored in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Wolves as Arsenal fell further behind in the Premier League title race, but the Gunners still lead by five points and after Saka signed his new contract he reiterated his desire to win silverware.
Saka said: “I feel incredibly good. I think this is a fantastic moment for my family and for me. I feel immense joy to continue my journey at this club. For me it was an easy commitment and I just hope to win everything here.
“The journey I’ve been on, from where I started to where I am now, and the journey the team has been on as well, is special. I believe the next few years will be when we cross the finish line, and we’ll be able to win trophies and make history for this club. We’re back where we belong, we’re fighting for everything.”
Saka has made a crucial contribution to Arsenal’s title challenges in recent seasons, most notably in 2023/24, when he scored 20 goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions as the Gunners finished two points behind Manchester City in the Premier League.
While Saka will be aiming for a first Premier League title this season, he is also on course for a quadruple, having reached the Carabao Cup final, the FA Cup fifth round and the Champions League last 16.
Arsenal have linked several players to new contracts in recent months, with William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly also committing their futures to the club.
Saka, like Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly, is a product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, having joined the club at the age of seven.
Saka among the best in the Premier League
Analysis from Sky Sports’ Nick Wright:
Arsenal spent almost £300 million on new signings during the summer transfer window, but securing Saka’s future could be their most important activity this season.
The academy product has become a talismanic figure for the club. He leads the team in the absence of Martin Odegaard and continues to be crucial to their attack, with Arsenal constantly turning to him to unlock games against stubborn opponents.
His production has declined this season, but no player can claim to have been more influential under Arteta. As well as having made more Premier League appearances than any of his teammates under the Spaniard, he ranks first for goals, assists, shots and chances created, underlining his all-round threat.
There is no doubt about his status among the Premier League’s elite. Since the start of the 2021/22 campaign, he has a combined total of 92 goals and assists in 159 matches. Only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins have contributed more goals during this period.
His groin injury was a major factor in Arsenal’s decline last season, but Arsenal will be hoping his goal in the draw against Wolves marks a return to top form. The team is fuller for summer recruitment but Saka remains vital, his future at the club assured.
