The Bulls and Donovan started the discussions on a new contract after the end of last season, according to Chania. The New York Knicks expressed interest in Donovan after shooting Tom Thibodeau in Tom, but he was denied permission to speak with him about their opening.

Before last season, Donovan had also been attached to the opening of Kentucky, after the departure of John Calipari.

Announcement

Donovan has been lexington assistant since 1989-94 under the then Rick Pitino coach. He became the head of the coach in Florida, where he went to four Final Four in 19 seasons and won consecutive national championships in 2006 and 2007. The Kentucky eventually hired Mark Pope, a member of the 1996 national titles of the Wildcats.

This autumn, Donovan will be included in the Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Fame based on his successes as a university basketball coach.

Accidents played an important role in the lack of success of the Bulls under Donovan. The Lonzo Ball Guard was limited to 35 games in 2021-22 and had not played during the two previous seasons due to a left knee injury that requested two surgical interventions.

Announcement

Last season, Patrick Williams underwent late season surgery in February. And Zach Lavine appeared in just 25 games due to a foot injury that requested a surgical procedure. The twice all-star has undergone knee surgery after the 2021-22 season.

Donovan’s extension comes after the vice -president of the Arcturas Karnisovas basketball operations and the general manager Marc Eversley received new contracts with the Bulls in June.
