Cup of Cavs: NBA news and links for Wednesday, January 28
Good morning, it’s Wednesday January 28th. The Cleveland Cavaliers are 28-20 and host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight.
Is this LeBron’s last game in Cleveland? Who can say? All we know is that it’s the last time his Lakers will play at Rocket Arena this season, barring a matchup in the NBA Finals. As exciting as it may be, I would consider this the King’s last game in the Land for a while.
Announcement
Last season the Cavs lost 2-0 to the Lakers. This will be their first meeting of the 2025-26 campaign.
Today’s match of the day
Cleveland Cavaliers-Los Angeles Lakers – 7pm, ESPN
There’s no way this wouldn’t have been our choice.
The Cavs have been one of the best teams in the league as of December 22nd. They are tied for the most wins in the NBA during that span and ranked in the top 10 in offense and defense during that span.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are 28-17 and have won two straight games. Luka Doncic is averaging 33 points per game, while James is recording a historic 22.4 points, 6.7 assists and 6 rebounds per game at 41 years old.
Both teams are dealing with significant injuries. The Cavs will have to do without Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Max Strus, while the Lakers will be without Austin Reaves. However, the one player we will all see will be on the field.
