Dave Edwards: Wolves must fix late goal problem after painful Arsenal defeat
I thought Villa was tough to take a few weeks ago, but this took it to a new level, and when you’re out there, sometimes you don’t understand the green.
Everyone had written Wolves off, but Rob Edwards and his team had to approach it the right way and come up with a plan to get something out of it, regardless of the slim odds of success, and they did it almost perfectly.
With the exception of the late goal, the game plan worked wonderfully. They defended a little deeper at times, were very compact, not allowing the opposition to play through the middle of you and force them out, then when they got into the wide areas, defended the crosses.
The worry has been how do we move from that to start creating chances? But the Emirates would never have been the ideal place to attempt to do so.
You have to wait for moments and those moments have arrived. Hwang had a very good chance, but it was also very difficult. He has five Arsenal players hitting him from behind.
During his run for that chance, his touches were pretty perfect until the end. When you’re running like that and trying to escape, it’s so easy to start zigzagging by accident, but his touch was really good until the end.
Maybe at the very last moment he could have gotten on the pitch a bit just to try and get through the Arsenal defenders and get more central to the goal. But after such a long run, it is still difficult to generate power in the shot.
