David Beckham has praised Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka as the perfect No.7 for England, commending his character both on and off the field. Speaking on the “Rio Presents” podcast, Beckham expressed his admiration for Saka’s journey and his significant impact as a footballer.

Both Beckham and Saka have experienced redemption moments in their England careers. Saka faced heartbreak after missing the decisive penalty in the Euro 2020 final against Italy. Beckham famously dealt with his low point after being sent off in the 1998 World Cup following a foul on Argentina’s Diego Simeone.

Despite these setbacks, both players bounced back stronger. Saka has since become a key player for England, scoring crucial goals and securing his spot as an essential member of the squad. Beckham, on the other hand, went on to captain the national team for six years, earning 117 caps, scoring 17 goals, and providing 42 assists.

David Beckham, who famously wore England’s No.7 shirt, expressed deep admiration for Bukayo Saka’s talent and character. “You look at him, I love him as a player. I love him as a person first, but I love him as a player too,” Beckham said during his appearance on the “Rio Presents” podcast. “Everything he represents as a footballer—on and off the field—is inspiring. He’s making a difference in so many areas, yet he stays focused on the game. He’s a great No.7.”

Saka’s influence goes far beyond the football pitch. At just 23 years old, he’s made an impact through his charitable efforts, including supporting causes in Nigeria, his parents’ homeland. In collaboration with BigShoe, Saka funded 120 life-changing surgeries for children in Kano. He has also partnered with Street Soccer Academy to provide over 100 football boots as part of Football For Good Day, further solidifying his reputation as a compassionate role model.

With 42 caps and 12 goals for England, Saka remains a key figure for the national team, contributing to their success in reaching consecutive European Championship finals and the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

During the podcast, Beckham also singled out Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, noting similarities between the defender’s playstyle and his own. “When I see a player who delivers crosses and long passes like I did, it’s Trent,” Beckham said, praising Alexander-Arnold’s vision and playmaking ability.
