Eberechi Eze responds to Crystal Palace announcement amid Arsenal transfer links

Eberechi Eze has responded to a new announcement by Crystal Palace amid rumours that he could leave the club to join Arsenal this summer.

Eze was at the forefront of Palace’s success last season as they ended their long wait for silverware by winning the FA Cup against Man City in May.

The England international has grown into one of the Premier League’s biggest talents over the last few seasons at Selhurst Park, and former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in May that Bayern Munich are considering a move for Eze after the success of Michael Olise’s move from the Eagles to the German giants.

Brown also told Football Insider on 6 July that Arsenal are weighing up whether to sign Eze and have held internal discussions about triggering his release clause, so it is clear that he is a wanted man at the Emirates Stadium.

Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Arsenal are prepared to meet Eze’s release clause soon, while the Crystal Palace playmaker wants to join the Gunners, as also revealed by Football Insider on 14 July.

Crystal Palace reveal Daniel Munoz’ new shirt number

The off season is often the best time for a player to change the number they wear regardless of if they have transferred to a new club, and that is clearly no different at Palace after new developments.

Speedy full-back Munoz took the number 12 shirt when he joined the club in January 2024, but he has now moved to assume the vacant number 2 after club legend Joel Ward’s departure, with the Eagles announcing his decision on Instagram (Friday, 25 July), saying: “A new number for our Daniel Muñoz” with the ‘2’ emoji and the Colombian flag.

Eze responded to their post by leaving a like, while Ward, Chris Richards, Maxence Lacroix, Murillo and Munoz himself all did the same.

Crystal Palace prepare to lose Eze to Arsenal

Football Insider verdict

Eze’s talents know no bounds, and despite him now being 27, it does feel as if he has even more to give and better seasons to come than his most recent impressive effort.

It comes as no surprise to see him linked with moves to some of the world’s biggest clubs in Bayern and Arsenal, and it does feel as if the Eagles are beginning to be resigned to losing him to the latter ahead of the new season.

Eze’s Palace career stats

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday, 22 July, that Arsenal are accelerating their plans to sign Eze, even though they have signed Noni Madueke from Chelsea, and a move does feel likely if the Gunners stump up enough cash.

The Express have previously claimed that Arteta’s side want to use Reiss Nelson as a makeweight to get a deal for Eze over the line, which would also sweeten a move for Palace.

The South London side are also plotting a move to sign Nice playmaker Evann Guessand [Sporting News], who can play in attacking midfield and on either wing, much like Eze, so it certainly looks as if they are planning for life without him, especially given that he is open to a move to the Emirates Stadium.
