EPL table: Man City now only 2pts behind Arsenal after 2-1 win over Newcastle

Manchester City clawed their way to within two points of Arsenal after holding on to defeat Newcastle United 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Pep Guardiola’s men came into the match keen to close the gap after the Gunners were held to a 2-2 draw against Wolves in midweek.

And they took the lead in the first half thanks to Nico O’Reilly’s controlled effort which headed past Nick Pope.

But Newcastle were level after Lewis Hall’s shot was deflected into the net.

O’Reilly then headed in Erling Haaland’s cross as City regained their lead, which they held until the end of the match.

Arsenal will have the chance to widen a five-point gap again when they face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, although they would have played a game more than City.
