Everton won’t be getting Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus in January

Everton are set to miss Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus in January, with the Brazilian set to stay put (along with Rob Dorsett). The Toffees will have to look to other targets.

Everton are in desperate need of a new centre-forward with Beto and Thierno Barry bulking up their lines so far.

The pair have been brutal for Everton, and manager David Moyes needs new options for his line-up.

Unfortunately, Everton will not be able to sign Jesus, who is recovering from injury.

Jesus is a quality centre-forward on his day and would be a fantastic addition to Everton’s squad, but Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said he will not move.

The Merseyside side would have struggled to carry the burden of his £331,250,000-a-week wage but could have used the formula that helped them land Jack Grealish.

Failure to sign Jesus leaves the Toffees with Ivan Toney and Joshua Zirkzee on their transfer shortlist.

With these two options alone, signing Toney is a no-brainer for the Toffees in the winter.

The 29-year-old Everton target has scored 41 goals in 59 appearances for Al Ahli since signing a £40m deal from Brentford in the summer of 2024.

He has scored 20 goals and created 12 big chances in the Premier League in 2022/23.

Toney is expected to be the main target ahead of Zirkzee, who has struggled in the Premier League with Manchester United.

In Zirkzee’s best season, he managed just 11 goals in Serie A. The Englishman is clearly the better marksman and should be at the top of Everton’s shopping list in January.

However, the finances involved in Toney’s transfer could scupper the deal for the Toffees.

He makes an astronomical salary in Saudi Arabia and it could prove difficult to get him to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
