It is not a secret for anyone that Ebelechi Eze was in books with Arsenal as a youth player, and that he was bitterly disappointed to have been released by the club well before going to the first team.

But having now returned to northern London several years later, Eze insisted that he needed this time away to build his character and become the person he is now.

“I don’t think I would be the same person if I was going through the Academy,” said Eze. “I don’t think I would have the same character I have now. So I am grateful for the trip. I am grateful for everything I have experienced and everything that led to this point.”

“I feel like I am right where I am supposed to be,” insisted Eze. “I appreciate working every day, I like to apply myself.

“When I say” work “, I mean as grafting to do something. And this is the mentality. And I will always appreciate that, I will always love it.

“And being able to do this here (at Arsenal) is a special thing. I don’t think that feeling will start.”

It was a solid start for Eze, with a goal and two assists during its first five appearances for the club. Since only three of these appearances have started, the 27 -year -old has already taken advantage of his time on the field.

But there will not be much time to settle. With the attacking injuries of Arsenal and the pressure to achieve something this season, the club needs Eze to continue delivering in the games to come.

It starts with an outside match against Newcastle United on Sunday. Arsenal has often had trouble decomposing Newcastle to St. James’ Park, and it usually takes a moment of individual inspiration to open the score.

Eze is certainly capable of providing these kinds of moments, but with Newcastle conceding that three times in five first League matches, it will not be easy.
