Five people were sentenced to six months in prison for pirating football
Five people, who advertised themselves as partners of ‘rojadirecta.com’, were sentenced to six months in prison for pirating paid football.
Five people have been sentenced to six months in prison for allowing people to watch football matches on paid platforms and access protected content.
This was the sentence imposed by the Provincial Court of A Coruña on these defendants for a crime against intellectual property.
The ruling, which cannot be appealed, was accepted by the parties. The five defendants admitted to the crime of providing access to protected sports broadcasts without the consent of the owners.
According to the Superior Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG), in addition to the six-month prison sentence, the defendant is also barred from practicing as a server and website administrator and content manager. All but one of the defendants are barred from offering or marketing software intended for installation on mobile devices.
The Court has ordered the Forensic Computing Group of the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade of A Coruña to proceed with “the complete, secure, and irrecoverable erasure of all data contained on the media.”
The judges also ordered the closure of six websites along with the removal of the applications, which were designed by one of the five convicted individuals and which allowed people to watch football matches for free.
Telefónica, LaLiga, and Mediapro, along with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, filed private lawsuits against these five defendants who, according to the charges, advertised themselves as partners of ‘rojadirecta.com’.
