The man who fascinated basketball enthusiasts in New York City and throughout the country with his “Linnsanity” race has officially called him a career.

Jeremy LinWho played nine seasons in the NBA, including an unforgettable race from 2011-12 with the Knicks, announced on Instagram that he had retired from the professional basketball.

“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away,” Lin wrote. “I spent my 15 year old career knowing that one day I should have left, yet to actually say goodbye to basketball today was the most difficult decision I ever made.”

Lin played for eight teams, including goals, in his nine NBA seasons, and also played professionally in China. He played the last time in the NBA in 2018-19, when he had a period of 23 games with Toronto Raptors.

But Lin will always be remembered more for his Linnsanity race with the Knicks, when apparently came out of nothing to 26.8 points on average per game for a stretch of six games, highlighted by a performance of 38 points against the Los Angeles Lakers in a game where the Knicks were without without Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony lost seven games for the Knicks in February, but thanks in part to Lin, the Knicks went 6-1 during that stretch. Lin marked on average 14.6 points per game with the Knicks in 2011-12 and signed an agreement of free agent with the Houston Rockets the following offseason.

Lin, now 37, had a career average of 11.6 points and 4.3 assists, shooting at 34.2 percent from beyond the arch.

“This is a tour that I never wanted to end, but I know it is now,” Lin wrote. “I will miss playing basketball forever in front of everyone, except for our time, it will go beyond playing. Here is what awaits us.”
