Former Miami Heat security officer accused of theft, selling millions of cimeli dollars
A former longtime Miami Heat security officer appeared on Tuesday in court, accused of transporting and transferring stolen goods to interstatal trade.
Following an investigation by the Miami Office of the FBI, The office of the American prosecutor, a southern district of Florida, was accused Marcos Thomas Perez, 62, from Miami, with presumably “stealing millions of dollars of shirts worn by Miami Heat and other precious memorabilia, which he later sold to online brokers”. Perez is a 25 -year veteran of the Miami Police Department who worked as a security officer for Heat from 2016 to 2021 and then worked as an NBA security employee from 2022 until the beginning of this year. By the press release of the American prosecutor:
“Perez worked on the security details of the game of the game at the Kaseya Center, where he was among a limited number of people trusted with access to a protected equipment room. This room of equipment stored hundreds of shirts worn by the game and other memorabilia that the organization intended to show in a future Miami heat museum.”
Perez is accused of having stolen more than 400 shirts worn and other memorabilia, some of which has then sold online-Cercato 100 of those articles were sold, many beyond the state lines, which they added to the charge against him. Also, because he was trying to make this relatively low key, he often sold articles for the market value well below.
“For example, Perez sold a Lebron James Miami Heat’s NBA final shirt for about $ 100,000. The same shirt later sold at Sotheby auction for 3.7 million dollars,” said the American prosecutor’s office in a press release.
The police carried out a search at Perez’s house on April 3 and recovered about 300 other objects of memorabilia, which Heat confirmed had come from their equipment room.
