Giannis Antetokounmpo confirmed to play Greece in Eurobasket this summer
Giannis Antetokounmpo will play for Greece in Eurobasket Fiba. This is not a surprise – he said that if he were healthy, he would play – but now he is confirmed by the Greek national team.
Antetokounmpo is the reason why Greece is a threat in the tournament, which begins on August 27 and runs almost at the beginning of the NBA training camps. Antetokounmpo was the top scorer of the Paris Olympics last summer, with an average of 25.8 points together with 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists in four games (Greece left the group game in the tournament but was eliminated in the quarterfinals of Germany). Antetokounmpo was also the top scorer of 2022 EuroBasket on average 29.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game.
While the name of Antetokounmpo has often been mentioned in commercial speculations throughout the summer, he said that “probably” he would return to the dollars next season, and most in the whole League expect this result.
Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic of Slovenia are the NBA players who participate in the European championships. Among the other NBA players who expect to adapt to Turkiye’s Alperen Sengun, Zaccharie Rischer and Alex Sarr for France, Franz Wagner for Germany, Kristaps Porzingis for Latvia and Nikola Vukcevic for Montenegro.
The state of Nikola Jokic for Serbia remains unknown. While in the preliminary roster of 19 men that the nation had to present, its plans for the tournament itself are undecided (at least publicly).
Victor Wembanyama is out for France, recovering from a problem of blood clots in his shoulder, and Rudy Gobert will also not adapt to a French team that won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics a year ago.
