How Arsenal’s transfer window run-in could look with Arda Guler joining and Ethan Nwaneri exit
Arsenal are aiming for a Premier League title and could use the January transfer window to strengthen their squad before the start of the season.
Arsenal are flying high at the top of the Premier League table and a first title in over 20 years is within their reach. After Manchester City were beaten by Manchester United last weekend, a golden opportunity presented itself to extend their lead at the top of the division.
However, they were unable to fully capitalize on the advantage against Nottingham Forest in a surprising 0-0 draw, and now attention turns to their meeting against United on Sunday afternoon. While other clubs may be looking to strengthen their squads to move up the table, things will likely be much calmer for Arsenal, who have a very stable squad.
Nonetheless, there could still be some changes before the deadline, but most likely in the form of departures from the Emirates. Here, Mirror football looks at Arsenal’s January window and what the coming weeks could hold for them.

Possible inserts
Arda Guler
- Nicknamed the “Turkish Lionel Messi” by some fans, Guler signed for Real Madrid in 2023 and became a regular starter under Xabi Alonso. Now that the former Liverpool midfielder has left Los Blancos, this could pave the way for Guler, with Arsenal interested in acquiring his services. However, a decision seems more likely this summer.
Victor Valdepeñas
- Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal are pursuing Real Madrid defender Valdepeñas. He is a left-back who is also capable of operating in central defense and would provide Arteta with greater squad depth. Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested.

Jeremy Jacquet
- Arsenal have shown interest in 20-year-old Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet, who could also strengthen their options in central defense. However, Chelsea appear to have agreed personal terms with the Frenchman, making a move to north London rather than the west increasingly unlikely.
Possible exits
Ethan Nwaneri
- Nwaneri, 18, is in talks to leave Arsenal as the promising talent leaves in search of game time. Marseille are interested and a loan deal has been suggested, although there is reportedly no option to buy.
Alexander Zinchenko
- Oleksandr Zinchenko could leave Arsenal permanently this month in a shock. The defender is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, but it is likely that this temporary transfer will be cut short. It had been expected that Zinchenko would return straight on loan to Ajax, but now a permanent cut-price move to the Dutch capital could be considered instead.
Most likely moves in January
