How can Derrick White evolve for the Celtics with a wider role? – NBC Sports Boston

4

It has been a good race for Derrick White since he arrived in Boston.

A NBA title and a gold medal. State for all defense and profitable extension of the long -term contract. It seems a little greedy to ask himself what more can do to help the Celtics when his simple presence seems to raise everyone around him.

For our 12th of ours Ramp to the field series and continuing our “What’s Next?” Week for key members of the Celtics 2025-26, We are putting the spotlight on the white.

While White seems to be one to avoid individual honors, it is quite obvious that the only great honor that has circumvented him in recent seasons has been a nod. Some cold strips scarcely in the tympanum conspired against him-in the fact that the Boston roster has been overflowed by the talent-but it seems that there will be an opportunity to earn that all-star selection this season.

The absence of a rehabing by Jayson Tatum to start the combined season with a drain of talents accused by the second apron will allow White even more freedom in the offensive end. How could White’s production peak?

You probably have to rewind March 5, when the Celtics played the blazers without both Tatum and Jaylen Brown. White broke out for 41 points on shooting 14 out of 26 while it was nine 3 pointers (while also adding four “titles”). He combined with Payton Pritchard for the first 40/40 game in the history of Celtics.

In eight games of the regular season they played without Tatum last season, White scored on average 20.8 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. The Celtics were +75 in its 274 minutes without tatum. It looks like the type of Stat line that would attract the attention of all-stars voters.

In 16 games of the regular season without Brown last season, White was 17.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.7 rebounds. The Celtics were +143 in 555 minutes. The theme: White was more than able to raise when the Celtics were without one of their stars.

A nod would be a reflection of White’s ability to help keep this team afloat while sailing in the absence of Tatum. If the Celtics Outkick Outsiders temperate, then Core members such as White could be rewarded with trips to Los Angeles.

Just like with Brown that rises to role 1A, we are intrigued to see how the white rates in the brightest spotlight. The teams will make more to remove those 3 -point clean looks, but White is so good at simply playing the right game.

Will your score be limited to that 20 -point range? Do your assistance numbers increase to career levels? We are intrigued to see how its efficiency rates with more use and if it can reduce turnover.

You know that the defense will be there. It has a better average of a block by game in each of the last two seasons while establishing itself as the best locking guard of the shots in the championship.

We are also interested in seeing how White’s leadership grows. Entering the year 9 at the age of 31, he has a curriculum to be more vocal if he wishes, even if he generally guides the example with his intelligent game. White can help guide this ship through some rocky waters while the younger players try to find their identities in a new list.

Everyone in Boston know the value of White. A nod of stars would be a recognition that even the rest of the League knows.

Let’s check -in with our panel on the only thing that want to see from White this season:

Assertiveness. It took almost two seasons for the Celtics to convince White to shoot every time he had an open look, and consequently he blossomed in the third best marker of Boston.

With Tatum outside, it is now the second best scorer and will be asked to support an even greater offensive load. In addition to taking open shots, it would be nice to see White look to create your offense more frequently.

Continues to be derrick white. Maybe it looks like an innerous answer, but if I’m looking at Derrick White, I don’t want to change anything about his game. Good player. Stay like this.

I would like to see White turns into a high volume marker behind Jaylen Brown. He was a coherent marker, having an average of 16.4 points per game during a career season in 2024-25. This is what was necessary from him then, but it is not what is necessary now.

White has had 17 games with 20 or more points, but only four with over 25 points and two of over 30. Since Boston will be three of the first six markers of the team last season (Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday) White will have to put a bigger hand in that ward.

Josh Canu, media editor

Be an all-star. Derrick White is option n. 2 for the Celtics this season. He has shown that when one of the Jays is out, he can collect the game. Now he has to do it every night.

I want to see if White is able to maintain its defensive impact while absorbing a bigger offensive role. If you find that balance, it will be an all-star this season.

Max Lederman, content producer

I want to see the white average on average over 22 points per game this season. Do you have the ability, but can it constantly mark for C without any decreasing performance in the defensive part?

Adam Hart, Ep, Content Strategy

I would like to see it avoid a cold strip without joy. It is sad to know that he is not having fun on the pitch.
