‘It’s the common sense’ – Firstpost
Can Arsenal still win the Premier League after losing to Man City last weekend? Legendary Arsene Wenger has spoken on who he believes will win the race between the two teams.
Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has thrown his weight behind Mike Arteta’s team in a tight English Premier League title race with Manchester City. Arsenal lead Man City by three points, but Pep Guardiola’s side has an extra game in hand.
The Man City vs Arsenal game at Etihad on Sunday was seen as a virtual final, but Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat with just five games remaining has raised serious questions over their ability to manage the nerves and cross the finishing line.
Wenger feels Arsenal will win EPL
Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League over the last three seasons, and a large section of fans and experts feel that the North London club
may soon bottle the job once again under tremendous pressure from Man City.
But Wenger, under whom Arsenal won their last league title in 2004, feels the club has what it takes to win the Premier League title in 2026. At a Project Twinning event, Wenger claimed that the “common sense”, as per him, is Arsenal winning the league.
He felt that Man City would not be able to win all six of their remaining matches.
“I believe that Arsenal will win the league,” Wenger said. “I deeply believe. It looks, to me, like common sense. I like Eze, Odegaard, Havertz and Madueke attacking (intent at the Etihad). Manchester City will not make the perfect run-in.”
Arsenal have an
easy run of fixtures as compared to Man City, with matches against Newcastle, Fulham, West Ham United, Burnley and Crystal Palace. City are yet to play against tough teams like Everton, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
Wenger, who retired from management in 2018, also spoke about how much he misses being in the top job.
“I miss it every day. I managed for 40 years. I miss the grass, the contact, the communication,” Wenger said before adding: “My luck in life (is) I was never attached to the past.”
