‘It’s yours’: Gary Neville predicts when Arsenal will win the Premier League title

Gary Neville has told Arsenal how many points they need to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners moved four points clear at the top of the table after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, having seen Liverpool lose a fourth league game on the rotation the day before and then Manchester City lose at Aston Villa.

Arsenal are now hot favorites to win their first top-flight crown in over 20 years, with Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach yielding results.

Neville, who has predicted Arsenal would win the title for the past four seasons, believes the title race is effectively settled as long as Arsenal “keep doing what they are doing”, can clinch their title with around 85 points.

“This has to be their year, right? This has to be their year,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

It’s yours to win. It’s your title, Arsenal… it really is

“This is the fourth season in a row that I have seen them win the championship, but they are not necessarily better, they are repeating their level of consistency, and that is all they will have to do this year to win the championship.

“They won’t need to go for 100 points, they won’t even need 90 or 95 points to win the league, mid-80s, mid-80s will get them that title, and they can do it.

“I mentioned before that other teams were inconsistent and unreliable. This is not that Arsenal team. They are very reliable. You can trust them. The way they defend is fantastic. They are all around each other. They don’t concede goals.

“They have a threat up front in several areas. They don’t have a sensational centre-forward, but they have an honest-to-goodness battering ram, and that can work for them.

“They have (Eberechi) Eze, so they have (Noni) Madueke, (Gabriel) Martinelli, (Leandro) Trossard, a lot of players who can contribute to goals. They have (Declan) Rice who can obviously deliver from set pieces. They have four fantastic full-backs and three excellent central defenders.

“So there’s a lot of really good things for Arsenal to do. It’s about making sure they don’t get carried away. It’s about making sure they keep doing the same things. They don’t need to do anything spectacular here. Just keep doing your job. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll win this league.

“It’s yours to win. It’s your title, Arsenal. I’ve never really been so sure before. It’s so early in the season, it’s madness for someone with the experience I have of winning titles to say ‘it’s yours’, but it really is.

“They have to feel it themselves. Arsenal fans have to feel it. They have to know that this is the moment where Arsenal can get back to the top. This is the moment for Mikel Arteta, for these players, for Arsenal to present themselves as the best in the country. The chance and the opportunity is there for them, they have to go out there and take it.”
