Jonathan Kuminga of Warriors holds “No Leverage”, for Bobby Marks – NBC Sports Bay Area and California

While the limited free agency of Jonathan Kuminga still awaits the resolution, Espn’s Bobby Marks believes that the warriors have the upper hand in any current negotiation with the 22 -year -old wing.
The longtime NBA manager gave his perspective on the Kuminga saga during an interview with the 95.7 the show “Willard & Dibs” of the game on Wednesday afternoon.
“I mean listening, [Kuminga] It has no leverage. The only lever he has at this moment is to sign the qualified offer at $ 7.9 million and then try to go out to the agency free the next offseason, “Marks Willard and Dan Dilesy said.” When you look at the panorama of the League right now, it took us [the Milwaukee Bucks] renouncing Damian Lillard and paying $ 25 million [per year] In the next five years just to create space.
“The only team out there that has a hood space is [the Brooklyn Nets]and I don’t see them putting them [in] An offer sheet [for Kuminga]. Obviously there is the cartel mechanism, but this requires Golden Cooperation State as regards the salaries that they would like to bring back to an agreement here. “
One of the greatest problems that Warriors face is that Kuminga’s situation affects how aggressive state of golden state can be in the free agency due to the uncertainty that surrounds the amount of space for the contract for the young wing could eventually accept. However, Marks believes that any agreement is concluded will be under the conditions of the warriors.
“If he has a long -term contract, he will basically be at the terms of the warriors in terms of what that number could be,” explained Marks. “What happens with Kuminga imposes what your flexibility is even with what you have, whether it is your exception to the medium fiscal level or perhaps the full exception here.
“But if you are trying to bring Kuminga back and you are also trying to become great – a player like Horford, for example – your threshold regarding a new contract is 16, 18 years old, perhaps you could approach 20 [million dollars]? It’s probably there that it would be your number of walks. “
Kuminga is not the only player in a difficult point, since the signs have highlighted a handful of other names that are in a similar situation that sails in the limited free agency during a low season in which the hood space is a prize around the League.
“It is on a boat with a lot of them, Josh Giddey, Quentin Grimes, Cam Thomas, there is a list of other limited free agents who are basically found in the same situation,” said Marks.
“The market tells you that it is not a good time to be a limited free agent. This is what the market tells you. I think Memphis is a little different because of where they were financially; they could do it. [million dollars] Under luxury tax and $ 24 million below the first apron. If they were where Memphis is, they could probably be a little more aggressive. “
Kuminga marked on average 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in 47 appearances during the NBA 2024-25 season.
While it remains to be seen what the maximum resolution will be, the Kuminga situation is the most important domino to fall into the low season of Golden State.
