Jonathan Kuminga’s agent hopes for the compromise of the Warriors contract – NBC Sports Bay Area & California
Aaron Turner’s 6 -year -old son, Jaxson, is asking the same question on everyone’s daily basis when it comes to Warriors limited the free agent Jonathan Kuminga: “Have we made an agreement?”
The answer remains the same: no deal.
More than two and a half months have passed since the opening of the NBA free agency and the agent of Kuminga, Turner, was unable to come to terms with the Warriors and the general manager Mike Dunleavy. As reported for the first time by Anthony Slater and Shams Charania by Espn, and subsequently confirmed by NBC Sports Bay Area, the Warriors currently have three contract offers on the table for Kuminga: three years and $ 75.2 million with a team option in the third season, two years and $ 45 million with a team option in the second season and three years for $ 54 million without any option.
Kuminga has so far refused all three offers. The reason is not so much money in a closed market that had no teams with an adequate space for the salary limit. His request is transforming the team option into an option of the player and will sign the contract.
The last and final road is the qualification offer. Kuminga has until 1 October to sign a one -year qualification offer and $ 7.9 million. Signing the qualifying offer would be essentially refused of over 40 million dollars in money guaranteed by the highest offer of the Warriors, but would also help Kuminga, who turns 23 on 6 October, to check his destiny. It would be a free agent without restrictions next summer and certainly would not have been exchanged during the next season.
Understanding the risks of the qualifying offer, Turner and Kuminga are sure of multiple teams with more space for the limit next summer would range to sign it after such an unprecedented offseason.
“There are teams that went up that JK takes this qo,” says Turner.
Sign the qualification offer is a very real possibility, even if Turner told the NBC Sports Bay Area in the last episode of Dubs Talk that it is not a desired result. If the team option does not turn into a player option, will Kuminga sign the qualification offer?
“I mean, I hope no,” Turner said. “I don’t think Jk wants him. I don’t think warriors want it. I hope to understand it and come to a middle ground that makes sense for everyone and everyone can put the best foot forward.
“We don’t need all these distractions. … I’m not blaming anyone, but you have to let everyone enter the same page in the year. I think it’s vital for everyone’s good. I know Jk wants him. I hope the warriors want him. I would think they would like him. We hope to do something.”
Warriors have yet to include a player option on any contract that have offered Kuminga.
Kuminga joined Turner at the end of his interview on Friday with the 95.7 the “Steiny & Guru” of the game and made sure that his agent broadcasts a message to the Warriors fans of “I Love You Guys”.
“He loves fans, he would like to stay and be part of it,” says Turner. “Just because he gets an option of player, it’s not as he necessarily leaves. Everyone is like, ‘Oh, he’s gone.’ Because you have his birds, six warriors, who platform.
“It was a long summer. We are all tired, but we continue to push and we hope to find a solution and they prevail fresher heads.”
While the Warriors offered more money on an annual basis, Kuminga received offers of larger contracts from the Kings and Phoenix Suns sacrament, both who presented player options. The kings and the only ones, according to Turner, also promised a basketball investment in Kuminga how much the Warriors had during his first four years and as regards the NBA season of 2025-26 with their current construction of the roster.
Both the kings and the only ones, says Turner, would have achieved Kuminga’s goal of a wider role, starting and closing the games. The same cannot be said for the Warriors after Jimmy Butler’s last season.
None of the six players taken in front of Kuminga in the 2021 NBA draft won a championship as he did as a debut. None of them played with the most players of Futuqualre Hall of Fame. Everyone received more opportunities, more maneuver margin to make mistakes and have signed contracts by at least $ 100 million.
This is part of the reason why the player’s option is so important for Kuminga. He believes that the combination of his floating role his first four seasons, together with the present and the future of how he adapts to warriors, and being seen purely as a mid -season commercial resource deserves the goodwill of an option of player.
“The theory on this has been from the beginning, if we take a number that keeps the team under the second apron and what matters most is the Victory-hour and the maximization of Steph [Curry’s] Window and construction of a list, well. It’s fantastic, in line, “Turner said.” But allow us to have the back -ing of the agreement. Jk can still stay on the warriors. There is nothing that says he couldn’t. They will have his bird’s rights. But it is his choice.
“And if you believe in yourself, an option of player is very, very, very precious. It is almost an insurance policy instead of having to take it. It is a way to create flexibility … This is our theory. Give us the back -ing for the sacrifices in advance in order not to be able to really pursue his personal ambitions and fully expand his game, possibly exchanged in three months and only for the years”.
Desire is a player option. The threat is signing a qualifying offer. The team option is not completely out of the table for Kuminga and Turner. Turner even presented hybrid options.
“We are not opposed to a team option,” Turner said. “A team option has been discussed and we would be open to it, but then our theory and our thoughts is simply moving the number to the front.
“Where would it take? It is in the same place where we find ourselves at this moment, but you are not in the base compensation rule and JK has a place at the table. I think if you are JK you have to think about this: it has been in the same place for four years and the catwalk has never been free. Another team in which I don’t really know what the plan is.” I don’t hit it for this.
“These are business, that’s why the Po means so much in this certain negotiation.”
