Just 1 Arsenal player makes Team of the Week

Arsenal have just one player in the BBC and WhoScored teams of the week following Saturday’s win over Bournemouth and it’s no surprise who it is.

The BBC and WhoScored have revealed their most recent teams of the week following the Matchweek 20 weekend fixtures, with Declan Rice appearing on both sides.

Troy Deeney had little to say about Rice’s inclusion in his BBC team, putting it relatively simply: “Two goals, leader, future England captain, do we need to say anything else?”

As for WhoScored, the stats site’s team is selected based on its scoring algorithm, with Rice receiving a score of 8.46 for his performance.

The two goals would certainly have played a major role in this ranking, but Rice also created a chance, made two tackles, three interceptions and eight recoveries.

It’s not particularly rare for Rice to put in such a performance, but it was the first time he scored a brace in the Premier League.

Rice’s individual performance was vital for Arsenal to claim all three points, and it was particularly notable given the midfielder was injury doubt to feature in the match leading up to the match.

The Gunners will be hoping Rice has shaken off his knee problem and is ready to put in another big performance against reigning Premier League champions Liverpool on Thursday.
