Arsenal kicked off their pre-season tour of Asia with a 1-0 win over AC Milan, courtesy of Bukayo Saka’s second half strike.

Mikel Arteta would have been pleased with the sharpness in the performance and can take plenty of positives into the next encounter with Newcastle.

The players will be pleased to get some minutes into their legs and blow out any cobwebs from the summer break.

So, with that said, here’s a look at the latest Arsenal news ahead of another busy day of action.

Myles Lewis-Skelly beats Bukayo Saka for pace in training

There are not many players quicker than Saka in the game but the Arsenal winger may just have met his match in an unlikely form.

The Gunners have been posting various training videos from their time out in Singapore and eagle-eyed viewers would have noticed Saka being outpaced during a training game.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is not renowned for possessing blistering pace but that may now have to be reconsidered after the footage showed the 18-year-old leaving Saka behind in a race for the ball.

With his position at left back often asking him to invert into midfield, we rarely get to see Lewis-Skelly open up his legs at full tilt – it is a scary sight.

Arsenal fans praise Max Dowman for his performance vs AC Milan

There were many positives for Arteta to take from the clash with Milan but none more so than the assured performance from 15-year-old Max Dowman.

The Hale End youngster replaced Saka with half an hour still on the clock and from his very first touch, looked at home with the senior side.

His balance and composure on the ball had fans waxing lyrical over him, one supporter on X wrote: “Max Dowman. He’s worth 80m already…pure silk talent.”

A really promising start to the tour for Dowman and he will be hoping for further opportunities to impress in the upcoming clashes with Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur.

In fact, Arteta is a key reason why the Spanish midfielder signed for the Gunners amid interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.

In an interview with the Athletic, Zubimendi stated: “I don’t know what he saw in me, but I saw him as one of the top coaches in Europe. I wanted a quality coach when I left Sociedad. I think I’ve found him.”

Arteta has also been full of praise for his new acquisition, he said: “When you have him every single day, how he captures the information, how he processes things on the pitch, it’s very impressive.”
