The Gunners skipper remains out of action after suffering medial collateral ligament damage in his left knee during the 2-0 win over West Ham earlier this month. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Odegaard faces several weeks out, although the 26-year-old refused to set a definitive timetable for his return due to the unpredictable nature of the healing process.

With the November international break approaching, the midfielder is expected to remain unavailable until the end of the final round of matches before March. A possible return could materialize in time for the north London derby against Tottenham on November 23.

Posting on Instagram, Odegaard uploaded a collection of images showing off his work at the gym as well as snapshots from his personal time. His message consisted only of an “uptrend chart” emoji, suggesting progress.

The captain received a three-word boost from Arsenal’s official page, saying: “Step by step.”

Odegaard appears to be getting closer each day, having previously explained that much of his rehabilitation will depend on how his left leg responds when he returns to training.

“It’s difficult to set a return date with this type of injury because, especially if it’s my left leg, a lot depends on how it goes when I start to get back on the pitch,” Odegaard recently wrote in his Arsenal program notes.

“Sometimes it can be really painful when you start passing the ball and shooting and all those things with that leg, so it’s really hard to set up an appointment.

“All I can say is that I’m progressing very well at the moment. I think we’ll know more when I start getting back on the training grounds and we’ll see how it goes. If it goes very well, it could be quick.”

Meanwhile, Arteta acknowledged the Norwegian’s absence as a massive setback for his team, saying: “We will have to find solutions.

“But obviously, (he) is our captain and he is a player who gives us a completely different dimension with things he can do, especially in attack.”
