Medvedev says he is more mature after losing another Grand Slam final

History disappointingly repeated itself for Daniil Medvedev, who once again let a two-set lead slip away in an Australian Open final, this time against Jannik Sinner. The former world number 1 had already faced the same situation in 2022, against Rafael Nadal, and, despite the frustration, he promised to do everything so that this does not harm the rest of his season.

Despite the similar situation, Medvedev, now 27, says the feeling is different this time.  “ A different feeling, different circumstances, I would say. Now, I am dreaming more than ever, probably not today, but in general in life. But I would say that I am no longer a child who is dreaming. It is me, at 27 years old, who is dreaming and doing everything possible for my future and present. I love this. That is why I went to the final. I wanted to win. I was close. The result is similar (to the 2022 final), but I think the match was a little different,” he said at a press conference.

Despite his frustration, the former world number one hopes to overcome the disappointment as the year progresses. “ I managed to raise this level and become a different person with a different mindset. I will really try to do everything in my power, with my mind, so that this defeat does not affect my future tournaments and season, as that is part of the sport.”
