Mikel Arteta rocked as €65m star ‘agrees’ to join Chelsea and snub Andrea Berta
Arsenal are set to miss out on a gem sporting director Andrea Berta wants to bring to the Emirates Stadium, with two reliable sources revealing he has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea and is keen to move to Stamford Bridge instead.
Although Arsenal are currently seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table and have won all six of their Champions League games so far this season, manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Berta are looking to improve the team, not just now for the moment, but also in the long term.
TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey reported on January 15 that Arsenal had brought in Rennes central defender Jeremy Jacquet.
Sources tell us that Arsenal are genuine suitors for the defender, with Berta keen to secure his services.
With Arsenal ready to replace Ben White, the 20-year-old French Under-21 international is seen as his replacement.
However, Chelsea have taken the lead over Arsenal over a deal for Jacquet.
Graeme Bailey reported on January 17 that with Arsenal keen on a summer deal for Jacquet, Chelsea had decided to move forward with his signing this month.
New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior was extremely impressed with Jacquet when he saw him play in Ligue 1 while he was manager of Strasbourg.
Sources tell us that Rennes want at least €60m (£52m, $69.4m) for Jacquet in the January transfer window.
It now looks like Arsenal are set to miss out on Jacquet to Chelsea, according to journalists Fabrizio Romano And Ben Jacobs both claiming the defender has reached personal terms with the Blues.
Romano wrote on X at 1:13 p.m. on January 18: “Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Jeremy Jacquet, clearly the central defender’s main target.
“Contract ready, player keen and discussions underway with Rennes seeking club record sale fee of around €65m ((£56.3m, $75.2m).
“The #CFC supply is currently decreasing. A mission to France has already taken place.
Jacobs noted on X January 17: “Understand Jérémie Jacquet has informed Rennes that he would like to join Chelsea this winter.
“As revealed yesterday, Rennes had not planned a January release and are hoping for a record sale, surpassing the €64 million they sold Jeremy Doku for to #MCFC.

The journalist added on January 18: “Jérémy Jacquet has already agreed to join Chelsea and has let Rennes know that he wants to leave this winter, as revealed yesterday.
