Inter responded with a superb effort from Petar Sučić before the break, but Arsenal held on to record their seventh consecutive victory in the competition.

The result confirmed a new club record for consecutive Champions League wins, underlining Arsenal’s impressive European campaign.

As it happened

A new age clash of titans: Arsenal are seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, while hosts Inter are three points ahead of arch-rivals AC Milan. Two of the most prestigious clubs, in one of, if not the most competitive competitions.

On paper, the game looked full of excitement and class, and it delivered on its promise.

Arsenal’s build-up to their 10th-minute opener was brimming with confidence with a flowing one-touch pass into the Inter box, and although Justin Timber’s scuffed shot was not what the full-back was hoping for, Jesus came to the rescue when he latched on at the end of the effort.

Cristian Chivu’s men reacted eight minutes later with a powerful shot from Sučić which found the top corner.

Set pieces favored the Gooners for the 19th time this season. After Leandro Trossard’s initial header deflected off the crossbar, Jesus was in the perfect position to score his second goal of the evening from close range.

However, the Italian side continued to build and Federico Dimarco forced David Raya into action when the Spaniard made two consecutive saves at his near post.

Fifteen minutes after the restart, Bukayo Saka’s teasing cross presented Trossard with a golden opportunity to give Arteta’s side a two-goal advantage, his volley whizzing past Yann Sommer’s post.

Alessandro Bastoni’s final challenge on the hour mark sent the home fans into a frenzy. For a brief moment, Saka looked destined to score Arsenal’s third goal of the evening before the Italian arrived to deny it.

Substitute Pio Esposito looked lively for the hosts and created two fantastic chances, but failed to trouble Raya with either attempt.

Gyokeres’ curling effort ultimately sealed the third goal Arsenal were looking for and completed a comfortable victory at Milan.
